Caped Crusader!

Just a quick post to say:

I'm wearing my brown cape today! For the first time ever. I am of course very excited about this. This cape has been hanging on my coat rack for well over a year and a half and I've never worn it. Even though I really love it, I just wasn't brave enough to wear it. Weird... I know... So this is my outfit.

And check out these Converse suede booties! I don't really like Chucks, but I would definitely wear these!

The girl in the grey sweater... Giovanna Battaglia, fashion editor L'Uomo Vogue. Now this is a very stylish woman on any given day, but I've especially loved seeing her wear her grey turtle neck sweater again and again, with stunning looks every time! I imagine it's cashmere and just really soft and comfortable and warm and yummy. :-) She clearly enjoys wearing it. Such a great example of wearing signature or eye catching pieces with loved and cherished staples!

Here's the look that Giovanna's grey sweater extravaganza inspired for me. I wore this yesterday.

I suppose I was inspired by the color pallet as well. I love pairing grey with bright colors. Black, I think, can make brights look cheap. The wrong combination of black and yellow can easily look a bit "bumble bee" and black with orange always makes me think of a supermarket "SALE" sign. Grey forms the perfect background for colorful pieces to pop out and shine. I'm also loving my new snake print flats! I LOVE animal prints! I'll do a post on that soon, I think.

In the mean time I leave you with... PERFECTION:

They're by Maison Martin Margiela and available at Browns. How wonderful are these lovelies?! My heart skipped a beat when I first saw these boots. This is genius in design AND execution! Here is Rihanna out and about in her patent leather pair.

Leather Lovers

This is the inimitable Emmanuelle Alt! She doesn't seem too happy to have her picture taken, but I love the look! I never thought you could make a pair of leathers look so chic and still rock & roll at the same time. And there's an extra little treat in this photo: Standing there with her keys in her hand, she looks like she's about to drive off in the Mercedes parked next to her. Even the metal tips of her shoes match the color of the car!

Back in January The Sartorialist featured the coolest girl in the coolest pair of brown leather pants EVER! That was the photo that planted the seed. Those pants are just perfection! I used to own a pair of leathers a looooong time ago. I remember I used to like to wear them with a sweater that had a big teddy bear (fur and all) on the front. I loved the contrast of the cutesy sort of "goody-goody" feel of the sweater combined the obviously tough vibe of the leather. Emmanuelle's look is to me a perfectly executed, super sexy, grown up version of that look. After seeing her photo in this month's Glamour Magazine, I knew what my next purchase would be. I just had to have a new pair of leather pants! I found the perfect pair last week. These are my new lovelies:

I'm thinking about wearing them with an over sized white button down shirt, the "boyfriend shirt" ;-) and black leather flats or with a black turtle neck sweater and leopard print flats. Though I'm not sure if the leather and leopard combo isn't too, you know, "kitty fierce meets dominatrix".

Anyway, so I'm here enjoying my new leathers, browsing through Garance Doré's most recent posts and what do I see in her March 2nd post? Yep, leather pants, in the exact same combo!

It seems I'm not the only one who loved Emmanuelle's leathers!

PS. Here I am in my red shoes out and about today. It was 7 degrees Celsius and raining most of the day, but hey... I'm smiling... ehem sort of. ;-)

Wear what you like...

"Be who you are and say what you mean because
those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

-Dr. Seuss

Wear what you like. The fact is that people will form their opinions anyway. The real question is: what wouldyou rather they form their opinions of? A cookie cutter one size fits all look alike high street fashionable persona or the genuine bright yellow coat wear stylish you? There's a vulnerability in walking the streets with your bright yellow coat standing out like a neon sign screaming: “This is who I am, this is who I REALLY am!” It's scary and it's easy to fall into the fear of "What will people think?!"

Well... Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind...

I'm wearing my red shoes tomorrow. :-)
