Be careful what you wish for...

"I Die!" We've all heard Rachel Zoe gasp it. In fact most of us have mockingly gasped it ourselves... but what if Rachel were to really die for fashion...

Harper's Bazaar pondered that thought and came up with an amusing photo shoot, where Rachel dies at the hands of America's top designers. My favorites:

Check out the full shoot and a behind the scenes interview with Rachel here.

P.S. Big hurray for the season 3 return of the Rachel Zoe Project!! I'm glad they're back. I missed Brad. Now if I can only find episodes 2 & 3 online, I'd be set.

Victoria's a 10!

I have to admit that I like Victoria Beckham. And I have to admit that I sometimes, buy a magazine, because she's on the cover.

So was the case with 10 Magazine Spring 2010 issue.

I love this shoot. In my personal opinion curly hair suits her better than the sleek boyish styles she usually wears.

Call me shallow if you like.. it's okay... I don't mind.

Call her shallow if you like... That's okay too... All I'm going to say is: You try living life in a fish bowl, keep your marriage going strong for more than 10 years (which in it's self is a challenge let alone being married to a footballer), raise 3 kids (all boys), do it all in style and then come back and try to explain to me why she, in your (by that time) expert opinion, has no substance.

We'll talk then.

What an odd little man.

I have a confession to make... I don't like Karl Lagerfeld.

Shock, horror, fashion blasphemy! Yes all that I suppose, but it's true.

I think he's a genius. I think he's one of, if not the, greatest creative fashion mind(s) of the 20th century. His body of work is absolutely astounding. I think he's an extremely accomplished and well rounded individual outside of the fashion arena as well. I have the utmost respect for him... but I don't like him.

Then again, who is he? Really? So little is known about this man. Yes, we know a great deal about his work, but what do we know about him? Even his correct date of birth is uncertain. He says he was born in 1938, yet according to the local christening register in Hamburg he was born in 1933. Typo maybe? :) His name is actually Lagerfeldt. He had it changed to Lagerfeld as that "sounds more commercial."

And these are just the facts. What about personality? Who is he as a person? When I see a someone: the way they speak and move, I get a feel of their character even if it's just one aspect. With Karl I get nothing, nothing real anyway. It all just seems so contrived, studied even. He has a sort of built in "deflector array" that clears everything in his path. All energy flowing to him either bounces off or is neutralized, nothing is absorbed. I suppose the dark sun glasses that are seemingly welded to his face help a lot.

He is a self made man. That is, his public persona is of his own making, carefully created by him and presented to the world with an über confidence that says: "Take it or leave it, I don't really care. It's not even the real me, but it's all your going to get."

So when I say: "I don't like him." What I actually mean is; I don't like the persona he presents to us and I don't like his blatant lack of authenticity.

That said... does it matter? Not really. Considering our obsession with celebrity and celebrities in this day and age, maybe it's a good thing that he keeps who he really is to himself. He is first and foremost a fashion designer and what he creates is very real and very, very good. Who he is and what he does behind closed doors is beside the point and really none of our business.

P.S. Though I might not like Karl's fakeness, I do like Fake Karl. Well his blog anyway, it's always a good laugh.

More Carine!

I found this mini CNN documentary about Carine Roitfeld on You Tube. She's so elegant, so fashion, so french, so chic, so wonderfully fabulous. I like her, can you tell? Anyway, enjoy!

The Girl... the Crush... S4

The Girl? Carine Roitfeld. The Crush? Her vision.

Okay, Carine is not a "girl". Not in age, not in style and certainly not in attitude. She is to me the epitome of high fashion in the real world, more so than Anna Wintour. Carine has a realness that enables you to envison what a runway / trend look will look like on real women.

I mean, you would NEVER EVER see Anna Wintour in a denim skirt:

Yet on Carine the look makes absolute sense. Any woman could wear this outfit and not look like her clothes are wearing her.

Carine also has a sort of rebellious quirkiness in her choices. And we share a love contrast. This skirt, for example, could look wrong in so many ways, but pair it with the more serious and preppy look of the blouse and it works!

I get the impression that Carines dresses according to how she's feeling that day. Her look can go from very chic french madame...

...to ultra cool city chick.

This is a woman who knows herself well enough to be comfortable with change. So often you see (older) women who always look the same and sometimes even out of date. And though many might say: "Oh that's her personal style." etc, I find myself thinking "... or maybe she's just stuck in a rut, unwilling and/or unable to change."

No matter what she's wearing Carine always looks modern and nothing short of fabulous. There is no doubt in my mind; When I grow up, I want to be just like Carine Roitfeld.
